On 3 February 2026, representatives of the ECSO CISO Community, joined by ECSO leadership and other team members, met with the European Commission in Brussels for a continued high-level exchange on the future of European cybersecurity policy. The meeting builds on the structured dialogue launched in September 2025, aimed at strengthening mutual understanding between policymakers and those responsible for implementing cybersecurity measures.

Key topic of discussion

The meeting focused on two major policy files currently under discussion at EU level:

Incident reporting in the Digital Omnibus, with a particular focus on the proposed Single Entry Point

The revised Cybersecurity Act proposal, presented by the European Commission

The exchange offered CISOs a dedicated space to share operational insights, practical challenges, and expectations related to the implementation of these initiatives, ensuring that policy ambitions remain aligned with organisational realities.

During the meeting, CISOs shared practitioner perspectives informed by survey input from the community, highlighting practical considerations related to feasibility, governance, and operational impact. These insights contribute to a reality-check of the proposal from those directly responsible for incident management and compliance.

A structured dialogue with policymakers

This meeting reaffirmed the value of a regular and trusted exchange between the European Commission and the ECSO CISO Community. For policymakers, it offers an opportunity to stress-test policy ideas against real-world constraints. For CISOs, it provides a direct channel to flag challenges early, share evidence-based feedback, and contribute constructively to the policy process.

Both sides reiterated the importance of continuing this dialogue to ensure that European cybersecurity legislation is not only ambitious, but also implementable, effective, and supportive of Europe’s security and competitiveness.

About the ECSO CISO Community

The ECSO CISO Community hosts Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and other cybersecurity experts working closely with CISOs, from all across Europe and sectors. Its objective is to promote the exchange of information, good practices, threat intelligence, and to develop common positions of cybersecurity practitioners. To achieve this, the ECSO CISO Community provides regular discussions on topics of general interest to CISOs with a variety of backgrounds and experience levels.
